K-On! Started out as a four-panel manga strip created by Kakifly and serialized in Manga Time Kirara from 2007 to 2010 before becoming a much-loved TV anime produced by Kyoto Animation.
K-On! focuses on the amusing everyday antics of a group of high school girls who join the light music club at Sakuragaoka Girl’s High School to save it from being disbanded. Series protagonist Yui Hirasawa originally had no musical knowledge but soon becomes an excellent guitar player. Together with fellow students Mio Akiyama on bass, Ritsu Tainaka on drums, Tsumugi Kotobuki (aka Mugi) on keyboards, and guitarist Azusa Nakano (aka Azu-nyan), Yui forms the band Ho-kago Tea Time which is supervised by their teacher, Sawako Yamanaka.
Eventually Yui, Mio, Ritsu, and Tsumugi graduate and enroll in university where they once again join the light music club alongside new faces Akira Wada, Ayame Yoshida, and Sachi Hayashi, while Azusa continues with the high school light music club which is now joined by Yui’s sister Ui, classmate Jun Suzuki, and new members Sumire Saito and Nao Okuda.
