Mobile Suit Gundam celebrated its 30-year anniversary back in 2009, which is a fantastic thing for fans for many reasons, but not least among them is these fantastic art books which have been published celebrating the artistic contributions to the Gundam universe. This particular volume showcases the illustrations of Haruhiko Mikimoto who was the lead character designer on Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. Originally launched for the series’ 10th anniversary, War in the Pocket marked the first time anyone other than Yoshiyuki Tomino had been allowed to direct an episode, and as it was written by someone else too it began a significant departure from the direction the Gundam universe had followed up until that point. Concentrating on Mikimoto’s illustrations, this excellent art book tells the story of Gundam in chronological order from the perspective of these works of art. This is a real must-have for fans of the Gundam franchise.
