Watanabe Ken to Join Detective Pikachu Cast!

Well-known Japanese actor Watanabe Ken is set to join Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds in the live action movie adaptation of Pokémon spinoff game Detective Pikachu, which has already commenced filming!

Watanabe (Dr. Serizawa in Godzilla) will be playing the movie-original character Detective Yoshida alongside Justice Smith (Radar in Paper Towns) as Tim Goodman and Kathryn Newton (Alex Nelson in Paranormal Activity 4) as Lucy.

Rob Letterman, an American film director known for Monsters vs. Aliens, will serve as the director of Detective Pikachu. Other confirmed staff include Alex Hirsch (creator of Gravity Falls) and Nicole Perlman (co-writer of Guardians of the Galaxy) as screenwriters.

While the film doesn’t premiere until May 10, 2019, the Detective Pikachu game will get its worldwide release on Mar. 23, 2018, leaving plenty of time to get acquainted with the feel and plot before it premieres!
