Detective Pikachu, an upcoming live action movie based on the Nintendo 3DS Pokémon game Great Detective Pikachu, revealed Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds will be voicing Pikachu!
Released in Feb. 2016, Great Detective Pikachu follows a talking Pikachu who solves Pokémon-related mysteries around town with a boy named Tim Goodman. While the unusual detective may be lacking in strength compared to others of his kind, he makes up with his intelligence and powers of deduction.
Other confirmed cast members include Justice Smith ( The Get Down, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ) as the human lead, a teenage boy who teams up with Pikachu to find his kidnapped father, and Kathryn Newton ( Paranormal Activity 4, Big Little Lies ), a sassy journalist who assists them with the case.
The movie is produced by Legendary Pictures and written by Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman with Rob Letterman sitting in the director’s chair. Filming is scheduled to start in mid-January.
