First Donten ni Warau Movie Adaptation Set for Dec. 2!

Donten ni Warau: Gaiden will be getting a 3-part theater adaptation! The 1st of these will be named Donten ni Warau: Gaiden ~Ketsubetsu, Yamainu no Chikai~ (Farewell, Oath of the Yamainu), and it will open in theaters on Dec. 2. Along with this announcement, a teaser has been released along with details about the main cast.

In addition to Tenka, the oldest of the 3 brothers, the main characters all appear in the Donten ni Warau: Gaiden ~Ketsubetsu, Yamainu no Chikai~ preview. The video was only 30 seconds, but it was still full with action and will have fans pumped for the winter release.

WIT STUDIO ( Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress ) will be in charge of the animation. They’re well-known for action-packed anime, so we can expect a lot from this movie, too!

The cast will include Nakamura Yuichi as Kumo Tenka, Kaji Yuki as Soramaru, and Yonaga Tsubasa as Chutaro, marking the return of favorites from the anime. Toriumi Kosuke, Yasumoto Hiroki, Ohara Sayaka, Fujiwara Yuki, Fujiwara Takahiro, Iwasaki Hiroshi, Shimono Hiro, Suzumura Kenichi, Sato Rina, Noto Mamiko, Sakurai Takahiro, Okawa Toru, and Orikasa Fumiko will also be joining the cast.

The 1st part is about the Yamainu unit formed to subdue a serpent apparition that’s resurrected once every 300 years. Taiko, the head of the Kumo family, serves as an instructor for the group, and not only does Tenka join, but also his friends Abe no Sousei and Sasaki Kiiko, although their paths ultimately diverge.

The Donten ni Warau series is based on a manga by Karakara Kemuri that was then adapted into an anime in 2014. There was also a stage adaptation in ‘15 and ‘16, and in 2018 there will also be a live-action film. To get a glimpse at the upcoming movie, you can see the teaser below!
