It’s no surprise that a lot of people have a soft spot for this pathetic Pokémon, though. After all, who doesn’t feel like a beached Magikarp going up against a Zekrom sometimes? It’s time for us Magikarps and Magikarp fans to have an anthem, and Nintendo has answered with an actual Magikarp love song. Packed with cute animation and fantastic jokes, this is an instant favorite that speaks for itself.
This version is a translation of the original Japanese song that came out last summer, and they did a pretty incredible job on it. It opens with more than a few cruel jabs at Magikarp’s rank as the weakest Pokemon…
...including a mention of its unfortunate basic skill. (Pikachu is looking supremely unimpressed!)
There’s also (of course) a mention of the effort it takes to evolve a Magikarp into a Gyarados.
In the end, though, we all love Magikarp!
If that's not enough Magikarp love for you, try listening to the Japanese version below!
