“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Premieres in Hollywood

Today, Hollywood traffic was taken by storm (trooper) as streets were commandeered for the massive Star Wars: The Force Awakens world premiere. Thousands of diehard fans waited in Hoth-like freezing winds for several hours just to catch a brief glimpse of the movie's actors, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and many other celebrities walk the red carpet.

Although the red carpet event was short to keep in schedule with the film's screening, Ford and Hamill were gracious enough to spend some time greeting fans, shaking hands and signing autographs.

As one of the most recognizable and beloved franchises in all of film history, Star Wars has brought together otaku from every generation and every corner of the globe. Geeky parents brought their children to the premiere so that they could one day look back and remember experiencing this monumental moment.

The first film, Star Wars: A New Hope, also premiered in Hollywood, at the same exact location, in 1977!

TOM was able to interview a few fans lined up at the red carpet.

(John and Isaiah)

Isaiah Leon and his friend John, both 17, had this to say about the premiere: “We hope to see some cool celebrities. This is our first world premiere so I don't know what to expect.”

TOM: What's your favorite movie in the series?

Isaiah: I like The Empire Strikes Back the best. It's the best movie, best directed, best lit movie - everything.

John: Best scene was probably Luke using the Force first time on screen on Hoth, when he was captured by that wampa.

TOM: What do you think so far of the footage shown for The Force Awakens?

Isaiah & John (in unison): Perfect. Just perfect.

Isaiah: Yeah, it all looks amazing. I can't wait to see it.

(Yuka and Haruka, visitors from Japan, excited to see Harrison Ford!)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will officially debut in theaters around the world on Dec. 18, 2015.

Right now, Tokyo Otaku Mode is offering fans in Japan an officially licensed, moving R2-D2 that's also a fridge! Check out the video to see it in action.
