Joint Work by Five Motorcycle Manufacturers, “Bakuon!” 2016 Anime Greenlit

An anime adaptation has been greenlit for Bakuon!, a manga currently serialized in Akita Shoten’s Monthly Young Champion Retsu. An original DVD of the anime will be included in the limited edition of volume 7 to go on sale March 18, 2016. A TV anime adaptation slated for 2016 has also been revealed.

Bakuon! is a manga that depicts the “motorcycle life” of female high school students. The story depicts the youthful days of main character Sakura Hane, who has begun to have an interest in motorcycles, and the members of a motorcycle club at an all-female high school. The series began serialization in 2011 in Monthly Young Champion Retsu and to date six volumes have been published. Volume 7 will be released on March 18, 2016.

In addition to the announcement of an original anime DVD included with volume 7, a TV anime adaptation slated for 2016 has also been revealed. The anime is a joint effort between five motorcycle manufacturers—Kawasaki, Suzuki, Ducati, Honda, and Yamaha—and will feature actual motorcycles just as they appear in real life. Bikes that appear in the manga include the CB400SF, Serow, and ZX-12R Ninja, among others, so the anime is sure to be a must see for motorcycle enthusiasts. Further details including the production studio and staff are yet to be revealed, so keep it here for follow-up reports to come.

Bakuon! tells the story of female high school student Sakura Hane, who develops an interest in motorcycles after being worn out on a hilly road on the way to school. Hane joins her school’s motorcycle club along with her classmate and bike enthusiast Onsa Amano, and with the support of her fellow members she sets out to get her motorcycle license. She also gets a motorcycle of her own, and with that her radiant motorcycle life begins.
