The light novel Schwarzesmarken currently serialized in the PC gaming magazine Tech Gian (Kadokawa Enterbrain) has been confirmed for an anime adaptation. The TV anime series will premiere in January 2016.
This announcement came on Sept. 18, and on the same day the anime’s official site and Twitter account both opened. Along with this came a heaping of news, but there is even more information still to come.
It was also announced that the PC game Schwarzesmarken: Kouketsu no Monshou, developed of course from the original light novels, will be released in November. It seems Schwarzesmarken will be flooded in attention from the end of this year through to next year.
Koki Yoshimune, of game company ge, is the original creator of Schwarzesmarken and Hiroki Uchida wrote the scenario. The series shares its world with the popular PC game Muv-Luv Alternative. Now with an anime adaptation in the works, the world of Muv-Luv Alternative is set to expand even more.
Schwarzesmarken takes place in 1983 in East Germany 18 years prior to the events of Alternative. There, the intense battles continue between humanity and unknown life-forms called BETA that brought about a devastating calamity. The story follows the members of East Germany’s strongest fighting force, 666th Strategic Armored Infantry Schwarzesmarken.
Along with the confirmation of the anime adaptation, the staff and cast too were announced. Directing is Tetsuya Watanabe who gained acclaim for his participation in past ge games including Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. The animation is being produced by IXTL and Liden Films, with Sanzigen producing the CG animation. Liden Films is a studio on everyone’s lips lately due to their work on successive anime including Terra Formars, The Heroic Legend of Arslan, New Initial D the Movie, and others. Sanzigen too is a definitive name when it comes to CG anime. And Elements Garden, who is producing the music, has offered their music to countless hit anime to date.
The cast will be the same as that of the PC game. The role of main character Theodor Eberbach was also revealed for the first time. He will be played in the anime, as he was in the PC game, by Kenichi Suzumura. Theodor Eberbach is a second lieutenant in the 666th. The lineup of other popular voice stars on the cast includes Minami Tanaka as Katia Waldheim, Nozomi Yamamoto as Irisdina Bernhard, and Yoshino Nanjo as Liz Hohenstein, as well as Kiyono Yasuno, Chika Anzai, Emiri Kato, Michiyo Murase, Kenta Miyake, Yukari Tamura, Ken Narita, and Manami Numakura.
