A new smartphone in celebration of 20 years of Evangelion; recruitment begins for 30,000 official supporters

This year marks the 20th anniversary since the birth of Neon Genesis Evangelion. In time with this memorial year, many events and merchandise are in development, bringing much excitement to the series. Yet another new, fun project to celebrate has now been announced: the development of a new Eva smartphone. The project began on July 13 with the activation of the Evangelion Smartphone Development Committee.

Two Eva smartphones had been developed previously, one in 2009 and one in 2012. They drew tremendous buzz at the time and were something every fan found irresistible. For this 20th anniversary, creators are aiming to develop an even better smartphone tailored to the progressing age of technology. The smartphone, a SIM-free model that comes with an unlocked SIM card, is slated to be released later this year.

Preceding this, the Evangelion Smartphone Development Committee is recruiting 30,000 official supporters. The application period has already begun, and fans can sign up through the project’s featured site. Those who sign up to be a supporter will be able to answer surveys about the development of the Eva smartphone, and also have the possibility of getting news throughout the development. Supporters will also be given an individually numbered, official supporter certificate.

The first survey has also been posted to the official site, and even those who aren’t official supporters have the ability to answer. What kind of smartphone will be born from the opinions of the fans who love Eva? Keep your eyes on this story to find out.
