“Beyblade Burst” Begins Spring 2016; OLM Producing New Series

Anime planning and production company D-rights is embarking on a large project this year. A new anime series based on Takara Tomy’s staple toy series Beyblade, Beyblade Burst, aimed at expanding the world of the series is in production.

The TV broadcast will begin in spring 2016 and in charge of production is OLM, reputed for such series as Pokémon and Yo-Kai Watch. D-rights is a well-established anime planning and production company, and for many years they have been developing the Beyblade series overseas. The company received new funding from ADK in 2014 and became a company jointly financed by ADK and Mitsubishi Corporation. This is the company’s first large project since this new partnership.

Beyblade Burst is the third installment of the series. It will be released first as a new toy line this July. The toys feature a “burst” gimmick and are equipped with a tiny NFC chip. With this, many new strategies open up to the player.

Similarly to other installments in the series to date, this new series will be developed sequentially into a mix of different media from Japan to the world, including anime, manga, and toys. Serialization of the manga will also begin ahead of the broadcast in July in Shogakukan’s CoroCoro Comic.

Since its expansion in 2008, the series has found success with multiple generations with worldwide sales at over 200 billion yen and more than 190 million toys shipped worldwide. Along with the start of this anime project a trailer has been released as well. In it you can check out the characteristics of the Beyblade series as well as what’s in store.

The toy series Beyblade went on sale in 1999. The series has been developed in over 80 countries, resulting in it being a huge hit with over 350 million toys shipped around the world and profits of over 365 billion yen total. The TV anime series Explosive Shoot Beyblade broadcast from 2001–2003, and the the series Metal Fight Beyblade broadcast from 2009–2012. Each one was a huge hit.
