Gunpla Builders World Cup 2015 to be held in 20 cities throughout the world for the 35th anniversary of Gunpla
Gundam plastic models or Gunpla are welcoming their 35 anniversary this year. The Gundam championship Gunpla Builders World Cup 2015 will be held in 20 cities all over the world this year.
The Gunpla Builders World Cup started in 2011, and this year’s event will be its fifth time being held. In 2014, representatives from Malaysia and South Korea won the Open Course and Junior Course, respectively.
A bustle even bigger than usual is expected as this year’s championship marks the memorable 35th anniversary of the birth of Gunpla. With arrangements for preliminaries in 13 countries and regions overseas, the whole world is watching.
Entries for the Japanese championship start from May 18, and from July 1, nominations will also be accepted at cooperating Bandai Hobby Pro Shops Japan-wide. Participants aged 15 years or above compete in the Open Course, while those aged 14 and under compete in the Junior Course.
Unlike its predecessors, a web poll for general voting will be added besides the judges’ vote in the two grading rounds of this year’s competition. The introduction of general voting is an attempt to select the Japanese representatives even more strictly by incorporating the opinions of other Gunpla fans. The competition will most likely be heated, as overseas champions seized the title in 2014. The finals of the world championship are scheduled to be held in Japan in December.
In addition, at the 54th Shizuoka Hobby Show held in Shizuoka on May 16 and 17, works of the 2014 Japanese champions will be displayed as a prelude to the 2015 Gunpla Builders World Cup. With about 200 pieces of the HG series on display besides the champions’ works, it will be an atmosphere Gundam fans won’t be able to resist.
Among the exhibited pieces, there are also Guncannons and Gundam from the HGUC series that was renewed in 2015, giving the event a high profile. The Gunpla Builders World Cup is focused on every year for its high quality. What kind of works can we expect this year? Stay tuned for follow-ups!
