The international event Tokyo Meeting will be held on May 17 as part of Tokyo Gundam Project 2015. High school students will be introduced to Japanese culture in the vicinity of the life-size Gundam statue standing in DiverCity Tokyo Plaza.
Tokyo Gundam Project 2015 is a project based in Tokyo to promote the Tokyo Waterfront Area and support various efforts made around Tokyo. At the Tokyo Meeting to be held on May 17, which is being jointly sponsored by the Tokyo Waterfront Group, high school students will take the leading role and be introduced to Japan’s rich culture. There will be traditional Japanese entertainment including taiko drum and koto performances, calligraphy, and tea ceremonies. There will also be a live stage, baton twirling, and a marching band. It will likely be an event enjoyed by overseas sightseers as well as the many locals who visit the Tokyo Waterfront Area. The event will be held for a second time in September. Picking up garbage left after a sports game, an IC touch rally, and more are planned.
It is clear that the plan for Tokyo Gundam Project 2015 is to assertively support Tokyo through training global talent and holding periodically international events. With the Olympics and Paralympics coming to Tokyo in 2020, many sightseers from all over the world are expected to visit, and because of this, the project has a large role to fill. We will watch attentively to how it develops.
Tokyo Gundam Project began in 2012, with this year being its fourth year. In 2012, the project supported the 29th All-Japan Urban Tree-Planting Fair Tokyo and spread the message of planting trees. In 2013, the project contributed to promoting sports with Sports Festival Tokyo 2013. It has been successful in collaborating on a diverse range of projects.
