Haruichi Furudate’s smash hit manga Haikyu!! will finally hit the big stage! A live production play titled “Hyper Projection Stage Play Haikyu!!” has been announced. Performances have already been decided for the three metropolises of Tokyo, Osaka, and Miyagi. The venues will hold performances from the middle of November to the beginning of December at AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo, Theater Brava! (Osaka), and Tagajo City Meeting Center Grand Hall (Miyagi).
The original work Haikyu!! is a volleyball manga currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (published by Shueisha) that has been highly received by many fans. The series has over 14 million copies in print and was adapted into an anime in 2014. From the manga to anime, and now a play, audiences will have the chance to enjoy the story of main character Shoyo Hinata and his teammates in many forms!
Actually, the play itself will be incorporating many media forms as well. The hot-blooded drama of the series will be depicted with the newest forms of projection technology. Viewers will feel as if they are viewing a volleyball match right out of the manga on stage! You will not want to miss this “Hyper Projection Stage Play” that features both high-tech and more traditional forms of entertainment in one production!
The play will be directed by Wally Kinoshita, who is well known for combining film projection with traditional acting. Production will be handled by The Original Tempo, an acting group that produces non-verbal plays that focus on music and sound, recognized as an up-and-coming group overseas as well.
In charge of the script is Norihito Nakayashiki, born in 1984, a fresh face in the acting industry who has been garnering attention in the industry as of late. He has been recognized for his skill since his time as a student in high school, starting up an acting troupe called Kaki Kuu Kyaku during his student days. The cast will be announced in the coming days, so keep a close eye on future announcements!
