Junjou Romantica 3 to begin TV broadcast in July; popular BL series based on manga by Shungiku Nakamura to enter third season
Junjou Romantica, which was previously divided into two seasons that broadcast in 2008, is returning after seven years with a new TV series. It has been announced that the TV anime Junjou Romantica 3 will begin broadcasting this July. It will be a sequel to Junjou Romantica. Takahiro Yokoi and Hikaru Hanada have also been announced as cast members playing Misaki Takahashi and Akihiko Usami, respectively. It seems the story will continue to revolve around these two.
A portion of the production staff has also been announced. Directing is Chiaki Kon. Kon, who also helped create the Nodame Cantabile and Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi series, will exercise her skills yet again with this new season. The character designer is Yoko Kikuchi, and Studio Deen is producing the anime. Though details on the anime have yet to be revealed, these names likely gives plenty to look forward to.
A Junjou Romantica Blu-ray box set will also be released just ahead of the start of the TV broadcast on June 26. Included will be 25 episodes total: all 24 episodes from seasons 1 and 2 of the TV anime plus an unaired episode that was previously included in a limited edition tankobon volume of the manga. This can definitely be called a comprehensive set. Additionally, wonderful bonuses will be included as well. The box set costs 35,000 yen (plus tax).
Junjou Romantica is based on a boys love (BL) manga by author Shungiku Nakamura. The story focuses on main character Misaki Takahashi and his tutor Akihiko Usami, who is also a BL writer, and is popular for depicting their love with a mix of romance and comedy. Though it’s popular among females as a BL series, its popularity is spreading due to the TV anime. With season 3 of the TV anime confirmed, it seems its popularity will spread even more this year.
