Vocal unit Kalafina performed at Nippon Budokan for two days on Feb. 28 and March 1. Kalafina is a unit produced by Yuki Kajiura who has created music for such series as Madoka Magica and Tsubasa Chronicles. Since debuting their captivating singing voices, they have gained high popularity.
In July 2014, Kalafina released their first best-of albums, The Best “Red” and The Best “Blue”. These became hits that broke onto the Oricon Chart at No. 3 and 4, respectively. The concert was a performance of these albums. For fans, the concert was out of this world with familiar songs one after the next.
The two performances were titled after the albums, with day 1 being called “Kalafina Live the Best 2015 ‘Red Day’” and day 2 being called “Kalafina Live the Best 2015 ‘Blue Day’.” Each performance had a selection of songs from the day’s respective album. Over the two days, 20,000 fans packed into the arena and it was abuzz with electric energy. Surprises were also in store for each day of the concert.
On the first day, they performed for the first time the ending theme to the second season of Fate/Stay Night [Unlimited Blade Works], “Ring Your Bell.” And on the second day, they performed the new ending theme to the NHK show Rekishi Hiwa Historia, “Fan on the Water.” Kalafina was also in charge of the previous ending themes to these two shows and continues their role with these two new songs.
Regarding their first solo concert at Nippon Budokan, Kalafina commented the following: “For us, we have always been active in performing live, and Nippon Budokan was a venue we wanted to try playing someday. We’re sure that fans who have supported us since then were at our shows yesterday and today. We wouldn’t be where we are if it weren’t for everyone who supports us, and we are truly filled with gratitude. Thank you.”
They also had this to say to their overseas fans: “We are supported by everyone across the world who listens to our music. And many people came to our first concert due to the best-of albums. Because of everyone’s support, we were able to pack the house full of people for both days of our Nippon Budokan concert. To each and every person who came out to see us...we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
“Ring Your Bell,” first performed on the second day of the concert, has been slated for release on May 13, 2015. It seems Kalafina will cause even more excitement in early summer and into fall. Look forward to more new music from Kalafina to come.
