Bones Producing Popular Series from ‘Monthly LaLa - ‘Akagami no Shirayukihime’ Anime Adaptation to Broadcast in Summer 2015

The popular manga Akagami no Shirayukihime from Hakusensha’s Monthly LaLa is getting a TV anime. In charge of producing the animation is Bones, a studio that has delivered to the world many masterpieces to date. The broadcast will begin this summer.

Akagami no Shirayukihime was first published in 2006 by Sorata Akizuki after which it moved from LaLaDX to Monthly LaLa, in which it is currently serialized. The main character is a young red-headed girl named Shirayuki. The story begins with the king falling in love with Shirayuki and wanting to make her his concubine, to which she flees the kingdom and saves the prince of a neighboring kingdom. It’s a story filled with fantasy and romance. Currently, 12 volumes have been published and the series has over 1.7 million copies in print.

A highlight of the anime is its wonderful staff. Animation studio Bones’ standout works include Fullmetal Alchemist and Eureka Seven, with high quality being an inherent characteristic. The studio is known for its sci-fi and shonen works. Bones has also created anime adaptations of works from LaLa, which has many female readers, including Ouran High School Host Club and Jyu-Oh-Sei, each a masterpiece in itself.

Directing the anime is Masahiro Ando from such series as Hanasaku Iroha, Canaan, and Sword of the Stranger. Series composition is being handled by Noragami’s Deko Akao, and the character designer is Ouran High School Host Club’s Kumiko Takahashi. With the addition of Michiru Oshima in charge of music, the staff lineup gives plenty for fans to anticipate.

Also, the cast members voicing main character Shirayuki and Prince Zen, who falls in love with, her have been announced. Playing Shirayuki is Saori Hayami, a voice actress currently in the spotlight for voicing Urara Shiraishi in Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, and playing Zen is Ryota Osaka, who also plays Tokimune Susumu in Argevollen. Because both Saori and Ryota are two of the hottest young voice talents today, we can expect fresh, strong performances. With the series featuring so many unique characters, we can expect additional cast members to be announced in the coming days.

[Summery]
Raji, the prince of the Kingdom of Tanbrun, falls head over heels for Shirayuki, and girl with red hair, and she flees the kingdom after being propositioned to become his concubine. She manages to make it to a forest, where she saves Zen, the second prince of a neighboring kingdom, and begins working in his kingdom of Clarines as the palace pharmacist. Before long, Shirayuki and Zen open up to each other. Many meetings and happenings occur between this odd pair of a prince and pharmacist, their bonds become deeper, and, slowly but surely, they begin attracting attention…
