‘Haikyu!!’ Compilation Movie Confirmed, Development Continues on Season 2 TV Anime and More

A new project is being hammered out for the popular TV anime Haikyu!! that was broadcast from April to September 2014. Titled Summit Project 2015, the project will bring with it further developments for the series including the second season of the TV anime, a compilation of the first season, and even large-scale events.

The anime Haikyu!! is based on a volleyball manga of the same name by author Haruichi Furudate that is currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha). The series focuses on Shoyo Hinata, a boy obsessed with volleyball, and prodigal player Tobio Kageyama and depicts the daily adolescent lives of the members of the Karasuno High School Volleyball Club. The anime carefully depicts the story and the series’ intensity and gained popularity for its dynamism unique to the animation.

Thanks to its popularity, production on Season 2 of the TV anime was revealed at Jump Festa 2015 held on Dec. 20, 2014. Once again, Production I.G is in charge of the animation and Susumu Mitsunaka is directing. Helmed by the strong team that created Season 1 of the TV anime, the story will show events after the team is nominated for the interhigh competition.

The information released this time also revealed a movie. This will be a compilation of the first season, and fans will be able to follow the adolescence of Karasuno High students on the big screen. The release date and details on the second season and movie have not yet been revealed. Keep it here for a follow-up report to come.

A large-scale event will also be held. The aim of the event is for it to surpass the event “Winter Training Camp” that was held in December 2014 in terms of excitement, so this as well is something to look forward to.

Other projects are also being successively developed, and details on each one will be posted to the series’ official site and in Weekly Shonen Jump. For this year as well, there is no telling when the momentum behind Haikyu!! will begin to slow.
