A TV anime adaptation of Hibike! Euphonium which depicts the adolescence of female high school students in the music club was announced on Dec. 28. The series will start in April 2015. Producing the animation is Kyoto Animation, a studio strongly supported by anime fans. It seems the anime will be a standout work of the April 2015 anime season.

The original work is a novel titled Hibike! Euphonium Kitauji Koko Suisogaku-bu e Yokoso by author Ayano Takeda that won the 8th Japan Love Story Award put on by Takarajimasha. The series is set in the Kitauji High Music Club, which is improving thanks to the strict guidance of a newly appointed advisor. It’s a story that Kyoto Animation is well versed in, a story of adolescence.

Kyoto Animation puts effort into creating anime adaptations of works by debut authors, including last year’s Free! and Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions. This same pattern continues with Hibike! Euphonium

Directing the anime is Tatsuya Ishihara from the Air, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions series. The series composer is Jukki Hanada, and Akiko Ikeda from Free! and Tamako Market is the character designer. Also with the addition of Naoko Yamada from K-On! and Tamako Market as series producer, this anime is not to be missed. This is a wonderful staff lineup that could only come from Kyoto Animation.

At the same time the anime adaptation was announced, character visuals were released. Each is a member of the Kitauji High Music Club. Kumiko Omae transfers into Kitauji High in longing for their sailor-style school uniform. Hazuki Katou is Omae’s classmate. Sapphire Kawashima is a privileged girl who came from a private middle school. And Reina Kosaka has a father who’s a professional musician.

Along with the anime announcement, a teaser site has opened and an official Twitter account (@anime_eupho) has been created. From here on, new information about the cast and more will be revealed on the official site and Twitter.
