On Dec. 24, Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) announced that CEDEC 2015 will be held from Aug. 26-28, 2015. They also released the “Game Development Technologies Road Map 2014 Edition.”

CEDEC, held by CESA, is a conference aimed at game developers. Every year, they prepare with numerous presentations, seminars, and workshops for professionals. It is also a place where Japanese game developers exchange their freshest information. As always, it will be held at Pacifico Yokohama.

CESA also released “Game Development Technologies Road Map 2014 Edition,” a compilation of the latest trends in various game-related technologies that have the potential of being utilized in the near future. CESA has been releasing this road map every year since 2009. It briefly summarizes the subjects in the technologies thought to be important for game development in the near future based on trends seen at CEDEC sessions. As such, it can prove highly useful in surveys, research, and theories regarding future game development.

The technology subjects chosen for 2014 are “Engineering Field,” “Visual Arts Field,” “Game Design Field,” “Sound Field,” and “Network Field,” and each of the five fields is subdivided into separate technologies. In “Engineering Field,” they also mention “Animation,” which introduces the most advanced 3D animation technologies, “Practical Implementation of Full Body IK, Spread of Procedural Animation” and “High Speed Link of Kinematic Processing and Motion AI by Bidirectional Communication.” It estimates technological development a few years later to go in the directions of “Generating More Realistic Movement by AI, Physical Simulation, and Non-Linear Optimalization Technology” and “Applying Deep Learning to Motion AI” among others.
