At the start of the new year the Pokémon series of anime and games popular with kids around the world will be introduced in McDonald’s Happy Meal sets. The Happy Meal sets come with a Pokémon toy and will release for a limited time on Jan. 2, 2015. Though several McDonald’s Pokémon Happy Meal sets have been released previously, the concept this time is to “stimulate children’s curiosity.” There will be eight different toys to collect.
Happy Meals are meal sets aimed at kids that come with a cheeseburger or small pancakes, a side dish, a drink, and a toy. The menu, which combines taste and balanced nutrition, offers a wide variety of combinations to choose from, and the fun McDonald’s-exclusive toys are a hit, with over 1 hundred million sold each year.
The toys included in this new set of Happy Meals seem to be items related to stimulating children’s curiosity. There’s the “Pikachu Volt Attack” which Pikachu jumps out of when you insert the key into the pedestal and press left and right, the “Fennekin Fire Ring” that shows Fennekin running on the inside of a ring, and other items all overflowing with fun.
First to release will be four toys themed after Pikachu, Fennekin, Chespin, and Mega Lucario on Friday, Jan. 2. Following this will be toys of Froakie, Mega Charizard, Dedenne, and Pancham releasing on Friday, Jan. 9.
It has also been confirmed that special presents will be given out for a limited six-day period. On Jan. 2-4 (Fri.-Sun.), each Pokémon Happy Meal will include a McDonald’s original Tretta for use in the arcade game The Pokémon Tretta. On Jan. 10-12 (Sat.-Mon.), a “Pokémon Scrap” will be included. On the backside of this is a serial number that will give you useful Pokémon and items for clearing the Nintendo 3DS game Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.
