Tokyo Ghoul √A Broadcast Begins in January, Author Sui Ishida Joins Second Season as Original Planner

The official title of the second season of the talked-about series Tokyo Ghoul to begin in January 2015 has been confirmed along with information on the broadcast. A key visual to the anime has also been released, which stirs up excitement for the new season that is being developed with a new story.

The title of the second season is Tokyo Ghoul √A. Based on this slightly bizarre title, it will be interesting to see what kind of story is developed. The anime will broadcast on Tokyo MX, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, and in 43 regions of TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting, as well as on the free satellite channels Dlife, CS Channel, and AT-X. The first broadcast will take place at 24:00 on Jan. 8 (Thurs.) on Tokyo MX, with subsequent broadcasts on Jan. 9 on TV Aichi and Jan. 10 on TV Osaka and TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting.

The anime Tokyo Ghoul is a popular TV series based on the popular manga by Sui Ishida. The original work’s dark and thrilling story is hugely popular and is skillfully crossed over into anime by director Shuhei Morita who was nominated at the American Academy Awards in the Short Animation category. The anime began this July and broadcast for three months before reluctantly ending. Fans were further heated by the conclusion of the original manga’s serialization earlier this fall.

The surprises continued from there. A new story in the series called Tokyo Ghoul: re began serialization in the October issue of Weekly Young Jump (Shueisha) and the second season of the TV anime was confirmed. A point to notice about Tokyo Ghoul √A, which will start in the midst of huge hype, is that author Sui Ishida is working on the anime as the original planner. It seems we can expect a new Tokyo Ghoul the likes of which we’ve never seen before.

There is also a helping of events planned in time with the start of the second season broadcast. First, an advance screening event of the first episode of Tokyo Ghoul √A will be held on Jan. 4, 2015 at Toho Cinemas Nihonbashi. Details on this will be announced in the coming days. From Jan. 25-31, an event titled “Tokyo Ghoul × Nozomate Hito Kara no Dasshutsu” will be held on the ninth floor of Animate Ikebukuro Honten. Also, “Tokyo Ghoul × Animate Cafe” will be held from Jan. 31 to Feb. 22, and there will also be other events held at the Kobe Sannomiya-ten and Nagoya-ten locations. Details can be found on the official Animate site.
