Gundam Cafe Tokyo Station is Real-Life Reproduction of Anime Restaurant McDaniel Hamburgers

Gundam Cafe’s Tokyo Station location will reopen on Nov. 19 as McDaniel Hamburgers Gundam Cafe Tokyo Station. There are four official Gundam Cafes in the Tokyo metropolitan area, each distinguishing itself with its own concept. McDaniel Hamburgers is a fictional hamburger restaurant chain that appeared in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. This will be reproduced as a real-life cafe.

In the series, McDaniel Hamburgers is where the AEUG would hold secret meetings. It was also the setting of a number of memorable scenes, such as the scene when Captain Henken disguised himself as an employee and the scene when Captain Bright was eating a hamburger.

These are of the rare scenes that allow the viewer to feel close to the characters of Gundam.

The menu of the Tokyo Station McDaniels Hamburgers is also exquisite. They will offer four types of burgers: the Slegger Burger (plain), Gundam Burger (cheese), the Char Zaku Burger (tomato) and the MS-06 Zaku II Burger (avocado).

The Slegger Burger is said to be specially made by the “Salt Man” himself, Chef Tamura. One may wonder why it’s called Slegger.

These and the other menu items can of course be eaten in the restaurant, but can also be ordered as takeout. Visitors will also be able to purchase the same original merchandise as before.

In other Gundam news, a unique tumbler is being sold. Pre-orders for the Gundam Venier Tumbler Titanium began on Premium Bandai at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 13.

The third of the Discovery-G series, which blends the Gundam universe with Japanese tradition and craftsmanship, the tumbler is a collaboration with the artisans Tsubame. The actual vernier is the injection apparatus inside the RX-78-2 Gundam’s backpack, and the item is a tumbler based on that injection vernier. The package design is by the familiar Kunio Okawara.

There is also a stainless steel tumbler with the same design, but the blue rim is only on the titanium tumbler. The tumbler was made from the light-weight, rust-proof and durable TP270 titanium, the metal that is the least harmful to people, and, using a process known as anodization, was made to look more like a jet nozzle by giving it a burnt color from high temperature exposure.

The burnt color was achieved by transforming the oxide coating of the metal surface piece by piece, making this product an authentic piece of craftsmanship. The price is set at 7,800 yen (with tax).

These are also being sold at select Gundam Cafe locations. Those fans who can’t visit should be sure to order one quickly. There is much to look forward to with future Gundam products and cafe expansions.
