Takara Tomy has announced that it will release the work experience toy “14-Day Manga Artist Course” on Nov. 20. The product is the first part in the company’s Job Academy work experience toy series. The aim of this series is to grant the wish of what children say they want to be when they grow up. Leading the series as an occupation that kids long for is the highly popular job of manga artist.
According to Takara Tomy’s research, 67% of kids surveyed said that they want to become good at drawing and creating manga (research conducted by Macromill using sample of boys and girls between third and sixth grade). The “14-Day Manga Artist Course” was created to meet this need among kids.
Though the product is called a toy, it is packed with educational elements. And Takara Tomy have used their unique techniques so that it also includes entertainment value. The product, first off, includes a genuine low-profile tracing tool like those used by the pros, as well as comes with a pen and other drawing materials from Deleter, a famous manufacturer of manga materials.
It also comes as a set with a lesson book. Here, the process building up to being able to draw manga is introduced along with how to draw, how to process tones on screen, panel layout and production, how to put together a story, and more. There are 14 lessons in all, meaning you can learn all the fundamental basics of drawing manga in 14 days. A correction service will also be offered in which, by email or post, a professional at the manga vocational school Nihon Manga Juku will look at your work. There will also be a platform on which you can check on the results of your work. The plentiful content doesn’t stop there - lecture videos by professionals and more will also be available online.
The MSRP of “14-Day Manga Artist Course” is 4,500 JPY (tax not included), and it will release countrywide in Japan on Nov. 20 at toy specialty stores, department stores, volume sellers, online, and on Takara Tomy’s official online store, Takara Tomy Mall. This would surely also make a great Christmas present for kids who want to become skilled at drawing manga.
