At Toho Cinemas Nihonbashi, a new venue for the Tokyo International Film Festival beginning this year, there will be a huge feature of Japanese animation popular around the world, in addition to screenings in each of the existing categories.
At Hideaki Anno’s World to be held beginning on Friday, Oct. 24, a talk event will be held each day between Anno and anime researcher Ryusuke Hikawa. Also, the senior managing director of Nintendo will attend the event on Saturday, Oct. 25 to kick off a 3D screening of Pikmin Short Movie, the first animation created by game producer Shigeru Miyamoto who has created many masterpieces that have left marks on gaming history including Super Mario, Donkey Kong, and The Legend of Zelda. Syncing up with this will be a special interview event with Nobuo Kawakami (CEO of Dwango).
In addition to the screenings and stage events, there will be a model of kaiju King Joe from Ultraman and an extra-large tapestry from Hideaki Anno’s World on display. A 2-meter, 9-centimeter tall Evangelion Unit-01 will also be on display. Moreover, World Cosplay Summit Collaboration, a mass gathering of top cosplayers from around the world, will be held. The contents of the event are many and include fun plans and photo spots for fans other than movie fans to enjoy as well.
