A series of screening events of Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Tsuioku no Koukai began in theaters across Japan on Oct. 11. The film is a special compilation of the hit Space Battleship Yamato 2199 TV series that began in 2012 featuring a new cut and newly added narration. The talked-about film offers a new way to enjoy the series.
Big news was released in conjunction with the start of the theatrical screenings. Namely, the trailer, poster and plot of the film Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune, which will be released in theaters on Dec. 6, 2014. It’s safe to say that fans have been waiting for this.
In contrast to the recap compilation Tsuioku no Koukai, Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune is an entirely new film. It depicts the three-way battle between the warrior people of Gatlantis, the Gamilas and the crew of Yamato, which could not be included in the TV series.
Though the film has a story independent of the television series, it’s also closely tied with it. Viewing Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune following Tsuioku no Koukai is certain to make it all the more enjoyable.
In the space of just one minute, the newly released trailer offers enough information and visuals to raise expectations about the complete film. In addition to the web, the trailer began playing in theaters on Oct. 11. The release of Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune is less than two months away.
Capturing fans’ interest is the plot of the new film, which was also released. Talked about most may be the appearance of new enemies Commander Goran Dagamu of Gatlantis and Major Fommt Berger of Gamilas.
The story is set after Iscandar while the Yamato is heading back towards Earth, which neither the original series nor Space Battleship Yamato 2199 had a chance to include much.
The Yamato encounters mysterious mechanized troops on the outskirts of the Large Magellanic Cloud known as the warrior people of Gatlantis, whose reputation has spread across space. After fleeing an attack by Dagamu of Gatlantis, who requested the surrender of the ship, Yamato is lead to a planet. There they find Major Fommt Berger of Gamilas, who survived the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster and has vowed to seek revenge on Yamato.
The three-way battle between Yamato, Gatlantis and Gamilas promises to be an exciting part of the film.
Plot of Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune
“The year is 2199. Having undergone a hard journey and retrieved the Cosmo Reverse System in their destination of Iscandar, the crew of the Yamato aim to put the Large Magellanic Cloud behind them. However, they suddenly encounter mysterious mechanized troops on the outskirts of the LMC.
“The troops are the warrior people of Gatlantis, whose reputation for ruthless bravery has spread throughout space. The commander introduces himself as Thunder Goran Dagamu of the Gutaba Expeditionary Rapid Assault Force and demands the surrender of the ship. As Yamato tries to avoid the battle and hurry towards Earth, bright flames suddenly burst towards them. These are the beams from the new weapon Gatlantis boasts known as the Direct Flame Cannon.
“Though Yamato manages to warp itself away from Dagamu’s pursuit in the knick of time, it finds itself lost in a hazy unknown area. As though with a consciousness of its own, Yamato changes course and is drawn towards an unknown planet. To get a hold of the situation, Kodai, Kiryu, Sawamura, Niimi and Aihara go down to the planet to gather information.
“What they find when they arrive on the surface is an unexpected ship. Within the ship is the familiar face of Major Fommt Berger of Gamilas, who survived the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster and has vowed to seek revenge on Yamato. He and his crew have also gotten lost and are unable to leave.
“Following Yamato’s trail, Dagamu has also warped and is soon to arrive in the hazy space. The very planet that beckoned Yamato is also the planet he and his troops have been searching for. Dagamu aims the Direct Flame Cannon at the planet in the hopes of uncovering the obstacle that is Yamato. Will Kodai and the others be able to escape the closed space and break through Gatlantis’ siege?
“Yamato, who just wants to return to Earth as soon as possible, Gatlantis, which wants to take the planet through force, and Gamilas, which has its aims on Yamato--These three irreconcilable interests are about to clash.”
