Female artist Rei Yasuda who debuted in 2013 is at the center of attention. Her first album Will, released on Oct. 8, ranked No. 1 on the iTunes Store’s J-Pop Top Album chart and No. 2 on the Overall Album chart. This is a rare feat for a new artist.
Though she’s gotten off to a great start, there are still many people who don’t know of Rei Yasuda. Moreover, because of this, from her debut song “Best of My Love” in July 2013 to her newest release “Mirror” on Sept. 3, she has less than four singles.
She is also young, having just turned 21 this year. However, she is already getting high praise for her singing ability. Though her debut was last year, her career as a professional artist actually began when she was 13. In 2006, she successfully auditioned for the music unit that fused music and videos, Genki Rockets, and began her career as a vocalist.
Though she is still a newcomer, she is already well known among anime fans. Her debut song “Best of My Love” was used as the ending theme to the TV anime Space Battleship Yamato 2199. And her third single, “Passcode 4854,” is the ending theme for the TV anime Kindaichi Case Files R.
Now, her newest single, “Mirror,” is currently being used as the ending theme to the TV anime The Irregular at Magic High School. The song was a hit this past spring and summer. There is no doubt that the tie in with this popular work will help spread Yasuda’s talented singing voice to the world. This is also also evidenced by her current chart rankings. With her work being used in Battleship Yamato 2199, The Irregular at Magic High School, and other popular anime as well as in a Nissen TV commercial, Yasuda has certainly stepped up.
Will includes “Best of My Love,” “Passcode 4854,” and “Mirror” in addition to being tightly packed with her work over the last year. This must-have CD has 14 songs total, including a bonus acoustic cover of Genki Rockets’ famous song, “Heavenly Star.”
