The live-action series titled The Next Generation: Patlabor started screening in April 2014. On Sept. 6, a 1/48th scale plastic model of the AV-98 Ingram as depicted in the series was released. It is reproduced in minute detail, from the characteristic Patlamp down to the sign of the rising sun visible on its chest.
The “1/48th Scale AV-98 Ingram” was made from a new material called vinyl film, which gives a realistic texture to its joint parts. It also has an outstanding mobility range, which makes it possible to enjoy all the different poses featured in the live-action series. Plenty of attention was given to the details as well, such as the opening and closing of the cockpit hatch, its main armament, the Revolver Cannon, and even gimmicks for contracting its wrists are installed. The main camera on its head and the pair of red lights on its shoulders are made of clear parts, and golden plating was used for the symbol of the rising sun on its chest.
Moreover, even the fine warning signs and the number plate were recreated using marking seals and water-slide decals. Number plates are included in two variations, Unit 1 and Unit 2, and it costs ¥3,240 (tax included) in total.
In addition, there are plans to re-release a part of the Master Grade series, a brand under which Patlabor plastic models were released in the past. Besides plastic models, Bandai’s feature page also contains explanations regarding Patlabor in various other fields.
*The Next Generation: Patlabor* is the live-action adaptation of Mobile Police Patlabor, which acquired many fans through its spread-out media projects. Part 4, which consists of Episode 6, “A Large Kauju Appears: Part 2,” and Episode 7, “Time Dokan,” started screening on Aug. 30 (Sat). The national premiere of the live-action feature film is planned for 2015.
