Season 4 of Teekyu, a well-known “tennis anime that doesn’t have much to do with tennis,” has been greenit. This was announced on-stage at the anime music festival Animelo Summer Live held at the Saitama Super Arena on Aug. 31.

The original work to Teekyu is a manga by author Roots and artist Piyo that is currently serializing in Earth Star Entertainment’s Comic Earth Star. This laugh riot that depicts the daily lives of four female members of the Kameido High Tennis Club is becoming a short anime.

The four main characters of Teekyu are Yuri Oshimoto, Kanae Shinjo, Marimo Bando, and Nasuno Takamiya. Yuri is the stern one of the group who is harassed by her upperclassmen, Kanae is a Pocky machine who doesn’t really know how to play tennis though she’s in the tennis club, Marimo is an unpredictable doministic pervert, and Nasuno is an air-headed rich girl who thinks she can solve any problem with money. The series gained popularity for these girls’ nonsensical but well-timed exploits. Three seasons of the TV anime have broadcast to date - one in fall 2012, one in summer 2013, and the other in fall 2013. Season 4 is now coming to fruition thanks to high support from fans.

This announcement of the series’ continuation made on-stage at Animelo Summer Live brought huge excitement to the crowd. The venue was wrapped in passionate enthusiasm as fans expressed genial words including, “Congratulations!” and, “It’s about time!” at a high five meetup being held at the same time as the concert.

More information on the anime including broadcast channels and times is forthcoming. A “best selection” of episodes from the series’ three seasons is currently being broadcast on Tokyo MX. Today, tomorrow, and the next day, all four together or split up, it’s always frantic, uproariously funny tennis.
