The world’s biggest garage kit event, Wonder Festival 2014 [Summer] (WonFes), was held on July 27 at the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex. The event was sponsored by Kaiyodo, maker of toys sold with food, garage kits, and figures.
Halls 1-8 of the venue (54,000㎡ in total space) were divided into the company exhibit area and the amatuer exhibit area. There was a main focus on derivative works based on popular anime and Kantai Collection, as well as an array of original creations. Fans were swarming the lineup of booths.
At the last WonFes, held in February, the Kuratas, a gigantic manned robot, stole the show. This time, among the highlights seen on exhibit throughout the event were a Knights of Sidonia collaborative motorcycle called “NM4-02 Tsugumori Ver.” and a full-scale replica of Chamber’s head from Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, both of which fans could get on for a photo op, and lines quickly formed as fans waited for their turn.
The event was also packed with other content including live performances, cosplay photo shoots, products on display from Wonder Showcase, a label that produces young garage kit makers, and more.
