Sales of silver accessories based on Sega’s popular game series Yakuza (released in Japan as Ryū ga Gotoku or Like a Dragon) began on July 18. These accessories are just one part in a collaboration project between Yakuza and Strange Freak Designs (S.F.D.), an accessory brand that launched late last year.
Yakuza is a series of action-adventure games created in 2005 by Sega, one of Japan’s most prominent video game companies. The series takes place in Kamurocho, which is modeled after the real-life Japanese district of Kabukicho. A new title in the series called Yakuza Restoration! was announced back in February, and to date more than 6.5 million copies of this hit series have been sold. From this popular game series, collaborative silver accessories created by S.F.D. containing skull and creature motifs have been created.
On sale this time are a ring and necklace. Modeled after the tattoo seen on the back of main character Kazuma Kiryu, these high quality accessories have strong appeal. This ring is modeled after the ascending dragon tattooed on Kiryu’s back. We closely reproduced the atmosphere of the original art through creating a relief. One highlight is the brass-made whiskers that accent the piece. Dragons are a theme that S.F.D. hadn’t previously done before. Slightly different from putting the gradations in the design of the ring, creating it was very interesting; it was a rewarding challenge. By combining brass and pink silver, we were able to mix in the fun nature of S.F.D. An intense expression and ferocious claws - this is an accessory packed with a level of detail only possible from creators who love creatures.
