The TV channel WAKUWAKU JAPAN launched in Indonesia in February of this year and in Myanmar in June. The network broadcasts a variety of entertainment shows created in Japan. It is currently developing shows in these countries’ languages. The program lineup can be enjoyed by a wide age group and includes the TV drama Ama-chan which swept through Japan last year, information on Japan’s representative idols, introductions to Japan’s natural features, and more. The shows among these we’d like to focus on are a masterpiece anime and tokusatsu show created in Japan. From the currently broadcasting lineup, we will introduce two programs in particular that we recommend.
Created in 1966 is a work deserving of respect as the symbol of Japan’s tokusatsu genre. That work is Ultraman. The late-’90s Ultraman series Ultraman Gaia will begin broadcasting on WAKUWAKU JAPAN in July. The story is one in which Ultraman Gaia, the Red Giant born from the earth, protects humanity by fighting enemies from space. A rival of Ultraman Gaia’s, Ultraman Agul who believes that “humanity needs to be destroyed to save Earth,” also appears. Through the opposition between Gaia and Agul, the fights with Ultraman warriors and the stout sci-fi components, as well as the special effects intended for kids, a drama develops that is enjoyable to kids, teens, and adults. The program makes clear that the staff’s intention wasn’t just to create intense battle scenes, but to also depict a wonderful drama.
The second show we will introduce can be said to be a staple anime in Japan that has been loved since the ‘70s. Lupin III Part 2 is an anime series that follows the world’s greatest thief, Lupin III. The series is known for its altered atmosphere and episodes with a touch of comedy. The series picked up massive popularity for its fascinating characters and the high quality of the work, down to the details of Lupin’s gun and the car he drives. A highlight of the anime is its strong sensual elements. The show also includes an infectious soundtrack by Yuji Ohno, a name very familiar to those in Japan. The jazzy and funky soundtrack went on to be remixed as dance music. Even today, this series still picks up many new fans.
There are many works available on WAKUWAKU JAPAN in addition to the masterpiece works Ultraman Gaia and Lupin III, including Jewelpet Season 2 which stars cute animals with jewels for eyes. Enjoy works loved in Japan in a familiar language with WAKUWAKU JAPAN!
