2014 marks the 80th birthday of Fujiko F. Fujio, whose representative works include the manga Doraemon. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of Bandai’s toy brand Chogokin. Now, a surprising toy has been introduced as a project for both of these anniversaries. Fujiko’s characters have become a gigantic, transformable robot toy called “Chogokin Chogattai! SF Robot Fujiko F. Fujio Characters.” Beginning with its release in Japan on Nov. 29, the toy will then release consecutively in 15 countries. This is an unmissable item for both Fujiko F. Fujio fans and Chogokin fans.
“Chogokin Chogattai! SF Robot Fujiko F. Fujio Characters” is a set that comes with six Fujiko F. Fujio characters and three items. The characters are Doraemon, Dorami, Parman, Korosuke, Chimpui, and Gonsuke. The three items included were very familiar to Fujio F. Fujiko: a beret, a kabura pen, and a time machine. When each of the parts are joined together, it creates an original robot 220 millimeters in height. Included are not just combination gimmicks and transformations that fans of Chogokin will understand, but also prints of various manga characters, so fans can enjoy the transformation process while searching to find the characters.
A roughly 3-minute video is also available on the official site. It includes new animation and is not to be missed. The price of “Chogokin Chogattai! SF Robot Fujiko F. Fujio Characters” is 13,800 yen (excluding tax) and it will be sold at hobby shops, toy shops, and electronic shops throughout Japan.
Chogokin is a product line from Bandai of die-cast (zinc alloy) robots and heroes. The name came from a 1974 product based on the robot Mazinger Z, which in the anime is said to be made from chogokin, or super-alloy. In its first year after release, the “Chogokin Mazinger Z” toy set sold 500,000 units, and after this various other characters were added to the product line as well. To date, the series spans about 500 robots.
