Pokémon the Movie: Diance and the Cocoon of Destruction will release in Japan on July 19. Ahead of this, a free Nintendo 3DS game themed after the movie titled The Band of Thieves and 1000 Pokémon will release on June 5. The game’s story is connected to that of the movie, and it’s filled with gimmicks that will make players enjoy the movie even more. Until now, the Pokémon movies have crossed over into other media, but this is the first time a free game is being made.
The Band of Thieves and 1000 Pokémon is a game that uses Nintendo 3DS’ StreetPass function. Those who have the game will increase their amount of Pokémon by StreetPassing with other players. The goal of the game is to battle against a band of thieves to recover stolen treasure. It won’t just be the story of the game that ties in with the movie, something special will happen when those who have downloaded the game take it to the movie theater. Something special will also happen in Pokémon X/Y for those who have a copy as well.
Also, the guest stars for the movie and the theme song have been announced. Every year, familiar actors participate in the movie, and this year’s guests include actor Koichi Yamadera, talent Shoko Nakagawa, actress Yoshiko MIta, talent Rika Adachi, and comedy duo Nakagawa-ke. The short movie Pikachu, What Kind of Keys Are These? to screen along with the full-length movie will be narrated by AKB48 member Mayu Watanabe.
Mita is playing the legendary Pokémon Xerneas who is the key to the movie’s story, Yamadera is playing Ninja Riot who steals Diance, and Adachi is playing female thief Marilyn Flame. Additionally, Nakagawa will play Millis Steel who saves Ash and the others, and Reiji of Nakagawa-ke will play her father, Argus Steel. These two actors with the same last name are playing father and daughter roles in the movie. On the other hand, the other half of Nakagawa-ke, Tsuyoshi, is playing the Pokémon Carbink.
