The event “Shibuya de Hello Kitty” was held throughout Shibuya from April 24 to May 6 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Hello Kitty. Collaboration projects unfolded all over the place, including at Tokyo Hands Shibuya and Shibuya 109’s Rady. Among these is the limited time collaboration cafe between The Theatre Coffee, located on the 11th floor of Shibuya Hikarie, and Hello Kitty.

This limited time cafe offers four food items and three drink items themed after Hello Kitty. A favorite food item is the chocolate fondue that comes with a commemorative Hello Kitty mug. This menu item is fully satisfying both looks-wise and taste-wise and comes with melons, strawberries, and other fresh cut fruit that can be enjoyed covered in melted chocolate. Also, each drink comes with a Hello Kitty charm, and we were told that many patrons order them all in order to collect all the charms. Every day during Golden Week 1, close to 300 people visited the cafe. Because of its popularity, the collaboration menu was extended until May 11.

By the way, the caffe latte at The Theatre Coffee is worth noting. Two of the cafe’s current baristas ranked in the Free Pour category of the Coffee Fest Latte Art World Championship. If you happen to come to Shibuya, we hope you enjoy latte art from these two world-class baristas.

^1^ A period of consecutive Japanese holidays between the end of April and the beginning of May. During this time, many people go on vacation or visit their families.
^2^ A latte art technique in which latte art is drawn not with a pin but through the controlled pouring of steamed milk from a pitcher.
