The Handō Shūsoku Jin Hō in Real Life! Part 2 of J. League Athletes Recreating Trick Shots from Captain Tsubasa

A video for Part 2 of “J. League × Captain Tsubasa Dream Shoot,” a collaboration between J. League and the manga Captain Tsubasa, was released on May 1. The collaboration sees J. League players recreating in real life the trick shots shown in the manga Captain Tsubasa. Part 1 of the collaboration, which released on March 21, recreated Makoto Sōda’s signature “Razor Shoot.” This video made a huge impact, with over 4.3 million views.

In this long-awaited second part, the star of China Youth, Shunkō Shō’s “Handō Shūsoku Jin Hō” was recreated. “Handō Shūsoku Jin Hō” is a special technique in which a kicked ball is kicked back at double the speed toward the opponent’s goal. When executed perfectly, the afterimage of a large dragon can be seen in the sky. This is a shot with a fairly high level of difficulty, and challenging themselves with recreating it was Kengo Nakamura and Yoshito Okubo of the Kawasaki Frontale. What were the results? You can see what happens in the video.

From their comments below, it seems they were satisfied in their performance.

Nakamura: “This is a shot that I thought I could probably do when I was a kid. It’s a shot that can’t be performed if the two players aren’t on the same wavelength. It’s like I was in complete harmony with Yasuto. I was able to do this super shot because of Yasuto. I heard that Part 1 received more than 4 million views. Let’s shoot for 6 million!! I hope a lot of people watch it.”

Okubo: “I think we were able to show something amazing. It’s a miracle!! I’m glad I was able to do this challenge with Kengo. The shot represents the power of the current Frontale!! I think I’ll also keep quiet about the possibility of it being used on the pitch during a Frontale game. As a striker, this is a shot I want to make happen during a game if given the chance. Please look forward to it!!”

This project came about due to the strong influence Captain Tsubasa, which began serialization in 1981 in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha), has had over famous soccer players in Japan and abroad. The FIFA World Cup will also be held this year, and through Captain Tsubasa the enjoyment of soccer will be conveyed. A large Captain Tsubasa exhibit will also be held in June at the Mori Art Museum in Ueno. It seems this project will positively promote the enjoyment of both the manga and soccer from here on.
