Japacon TV #13: Part 6 Introduction

^*^ This show was originally broadcast on April 26, 2013.

Japacon TV is a show that introduces Japanese subcultures such as anime and Vocaloid and broadcasts at 24:00 every Friday on the Japanese satellite broadcast channel BS Fuji. This episode is titled “Dream Collaborations Between Anime and Commercials?! The Frontlines of the Anime Advertisement Business.” It is themed after collaborations between anime production companies, creators, and the commercial industry. In this sixth part, we concentrate on an interview regarding the inside story of an anime commercial created by Taisei Corporation, Japan’s largest construction company.

When Taisei Corporation was creating the anime commercial, they sent director Makoto Shinkai to Turkey, the setting of the commercial, for observation. There, his real-life experiences influenced the commercial that was made, and he accomplished making a realistic video made using anime. The helmet used by director Shinkai on his journey is now signed and decorates the lobby of Taisei Corporation.

There is also an interview with Noritaka Kawaguchi, CEO of CoMix Wave Films, the animation company that created the commercial. Kawaguchi previously had said that CoMix Wave Films was originally a company that kept in mind being a “niche business of the anime world” and dared to challenge itself with projects not aimed at major companies. However, anime commercials are by no means a niche business. So what did Kawaguchi have to say about this?
