In celebration of Saint Seiya series creator Masami Kurumada’s 40 years as an artist, the theatrical movie Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary will release across the country on June 21. Now, a new special poster has been released. The poster is filled with original illustrations by Kurumada, who is also taking over production of the film, and is a visual that will have fans watering at the mouth.

The story of Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary is based on one of the series’ most popular episodes: “The Twelve Palaces.” Expressing this, illustrations of famous scenes from this episode of the original work are spread all across the background of the poster. With the movie’s 3D CG characters and characters drawn with Kurumada’s skillful touch appearing together, this is a poster fans won’t be able to miss. The poster was also printed on metallic gold paper.
The shining Saints in the poster will likely catch the attention of passersby. The posters will be on display in 40 JR stations across Japan during Golden Week only, from April 28 to May 4.

Saint Seiya was first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from 1985-90. The TV anime came just nine months after the start of serialization, which is unusually fast, and created a huge boom in the late ‘80s. Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary features a theme song specially written by Yoshiki of X Japan and is also gaining attention due to the appointment of Ayaka Sasaki from the idol group Momoiro Clover Z as a voice actress. The posters will serve to hype of the film’s release, which is two months away.
