The movie Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary will open in Japan in early summer 2014. Several Saint Seiya movies have been made to date, but this movie is picking up attention for being a full-length movie completely supervised by the creator of the series, Masami Kurumada.

Work on the movie may have been revealed, but since then not much more has been said about it. Above all, a character visual hadn’t even been revealed yet. But that all changed on Dec. 14 when the first teaser visual showing the main characters was released.

There is no doubt that this character image will shock many fans. In the middle is Seiya surrounded by Saori aka the goddess Athena and the Bronze Saints Hyōga, Shun, and Ikki which in and of itself isn’t surprising. What is surprising is that the visual shows completely new character designs for them. The characteristic Japanese anime style of big eyes and other exaggerated features has been put on the back burner for a more realistic look. Fans not just in Japan, but all over the world will be aware of this when they see it. We are curious to see what kind of reactions this will receive from fans.

The visual is also designed with the phrase “Save Your Athena” along with a bird’s eye view of Sanctuary. It’s clear that this will be the stage for the movie. The movie will depict the 12 Palaces arc that has especially high popularity among the chapters of the original work. In order to protect the goddess, Saint Seiya and the rest face off against the most powerful of all the Saints, the Gold Saints. Though it’s still about half a year away, look forward how this intense story will be brought to the big screen.
