Puella Magi Madoka Magica Fone, the newest series in the smartphone app Fone, which allows smartphone users to completely change their phone to their favorite anime, is being further developed this year. Released on March 10 for the Android edition of the app, which has already been released in 15 countries, are three new versions of the app: the Mami Tomoe Ver., Kyōko Sakura Ver., and Sayaka Miki Ver. This makes five versions total in addition to the previously released Madoka Kaname Ver. and Homura Akemi Ver. Additionally, an iPhone edition that many fans have expressed a wanting for is in the works and will be released this spring. Now, even more fans will be able to enjoy Puella Magi Madoka Magica Fone.
The smartphone app Fone utilizes the techniques of the U.S. app Foneclay. By using the app, everything from the smartphone’s interface design, functions, and more can be freely customized. For example, by using the Puella Magi Madoka Magica Fone, the design of the tools on the home screen can be changed using an original voice and gallery bank to deck out the phone after a particular character. The time display and icons can also be changed, and it also comes with an original calculator tool. It is also loaded with little touches that reflect the story of the series, such as the Soul Gem on the standby screen shining or becoming dirty when certain conditions are met.
There is also a characteristic of the collection screen, that being the “Witch Encyclopedia” and gallery that is loaded with art from famous scenes. In addition to containing famous lines from the series, the “Voice Collection” also has original character dialogue that was recorded especially for this app. Furthermore, the app completely changes to Witch Mode when certain conditions are met. When the “Witch’s Kiss” appears on screen, tapping it will completely change the phone to Witch Mode. At this point, the home screen, tools, and everything else will fall under control of the witch. Defeat the witch, and things will go back to normal.
The Android version of Puella Magi Madoka Magica Fone is available on Google Play for ￥1,200. In addition to Japan, it is also available in the U.S., Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Mexico, and Brazil. All five characters released thus far will also be available when the iPhone version releases this spring. This version will be available on the App Store in the countries listed above. A price for this version has not yet been determined.
