Sabagebu!, a comedic manga of high school girls enjoying survival games as their club activity, is becoming an anime. On March 3, the anime’s official site and Twitter launched, and information began being released. Sabagebu! is currently serialized in Nakayoshi (Kodansha). The manga was started in 2011 by Hidekichi Matsumoto, winner of the 35th Kodansha Manga Award for his work Hontoni Atta! Reibai-sensei, and has since picked up wide support for its cute characters.
The main character of Sabagebu! is Momoka Sonokawa. For some reason, she is dragged into joining the sabagebu (short for Survival Game Club) soon after transferring to Aogiri Academy. What’s more, the club president Mio Otori and the rest of the members are all oddballs.
In charge of this anime adaptation is Studio Pierrot Plus, the studio behind Tegami Bachi. Also on the staff is the tag team combination of director Masahiko Ota and series composer Takashi Oshima who both worked on Yuru Yuri and Love Lab. Also, with Masashi Kudo of Bleach fame as the character designer, this is a stellar team from which great things are expected.
Other than the fact that the broadcast will begin sometime this year, no particulars on the anime have been revealed. However, it seems there will be a flood of information near the end of March. Information will be released all at once during AnimeJapan 2014 to be held at Tokyo Big Sight on March 22 and 23. First off, there will be an introduction to the anime at the Namco Bandai booth and Pierrot booth. Here, fans will likely be able to check out new visuals. Then, at 12:00 on March 22, a talk event is planned to take place on the open stage. Taking the stage will be the five members of the main cast, who all still haven’t been announced. In addition to this, we’ve been informed that a huge amount of information will be revealed. It seems likely that this will be an unmissable work on the days of the event.
