Kyoto Animation has announced an animated film sequel to their popular anime series Tamako Market. The highly anticipated film, titled Tamako Love Story, is scheduled to be released on April 26. With the release of the film fast approaching, a second sneak peek trailer has been released on the official website. More new information about the film is steadily coming to light.
One particularly interesting tidbit about the new film is the included short film and the Valentine’s Day project. First off, a short film titled Dera-chan from the Southern Islands is set to be screened with the release of the new full-length film. Dera-chan is the nickname of Dera Mochimazzwi, a parrot that played a major part in the original TV anime series. Some might even argue that he’s secretly the true main character of the show. The short film depicts what happens to Dera-chan after he leaves Usagiyama Shopping District and returns to the southern islands. I hope we can look forward to the hectic everyday adventures of Dera-chan, Choi, and the prince.
Also, let’s not forget about the Valentine’s Day project. From Feb. 14 to 16, for a limited time only, a limited number of pre-order tickets will be for sale. The theme is “A Valentine’s Day Present from Mochizō,” and each ticket comes with a clear file folder with a Mochizō illustration by Yukiko Horiguchi, the show’s character designer. The visual of a smiling Mochizō is an absolute must-have for female fans of the series. This special offer is only available from Feb. 14 to 16 and supplies are limited. It’s sure to be a rare piece of Tamako Market merchandise. The Valentine’s Day tickets will be for sale at select theaters. The price is 1,500 yen for adults, 900 yen for children. For more details, check the official website.
Tamako Love Story begins where the TV series left off. It follows Tamako Kitashirakawa’s life after becoming a third year high school student. Tamako mentions off hand that she plans to inherit her family’s business in the future. And her long time neighbor and friend, Mochizō, makes a decision. As various things around her begin to change, Tamako’s heart starts to slowly sway.
