The newest Pokémon movie, Pokémon XY the Movie: The Cocoon of Destruction, will be released on July 19. The secret to the success of Pokémon movies is that a new movie is released every year. It will be interesting to see what surprises are in store this year.
A Pokémon for use in the Nintendo 3DS games Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be given to those who purchase tickets to see the movie. Fans can vote on four Pokémon, and the winner will be included as a present with special advance tickets to go on sale on April 19.
The four contenders are Jirachi, a Wish Pokémon that appeared in the 2003 movie Pokémon: Jirachi the Wish Maker; Manaphy, a Seafaring Pokémon that appeared in the 2006 movie Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea; Darkrai, a Dark Pokémon that appeared in the 2007 movie Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai; and Victini, a Victory Pokémon that appeared in the 2011 movies Pokémon the Movie: Black - Victini and Reshiram and Pokémon the Movie: White - Victini and Zekrom. Because each one will have its own appearance and abilities, choosing just one will likely be difficult.
The connection between these four Pokémon is that they all appear in the short film Pikachu, What Kind of Keys are These? which will screen with this year’s movie. Fans can vote on the Pokémon on the movie’s official site, in the February issue of Monthly CoroCoro Comic (on sale Jan. 15), on the data broadcast of TV Tokyo’s anime Pokémon XY, at all eight Pokémon Centers throughout Japan, and at the Pokémon booth at the 2014 Winter Next Generation World Hobby Fair. Votes will be taken until Feb. 10, and the winner will be announced on March 15.
Also, one more big announcement was made on Jan. 15. It was revealed that the movie’s subtitle, Cocoon of Destruction, is in reference to the Pokémon Yveltal. Naturally, Yveltal will also appear in the movie. A portion of the movie’s story was also released. The movie is set in the Kalos Region, where the Destruction Pokémon Yveltal threatens to wipe out all life. The only one who can stop this from happening is the Life Pokémon Xerneas. The movie is themed around a journey to find these two legendary Pokémon.
Story
Long ago, there was a large destructive event that wiped out all life in the Kalos Region. The one responsible for this event was the Destruction Pokémon Yveltal. After laying waste to everything, Yveltal created a “cocoon of destruction” which it has been slumbering in to this day. At the time of his destructive rampage, the only one with the power to stop him was the Life Pokémon Xerneas. It is said that Xerneas gives life to both humans and Pokémon. A journey through the Kalos Region to find these two legendary Pokémon begins.
