Pupipō!, a manga created by Rensuke Oshikiri and published in the webcomic magazine Comic Meteor, is becoming a TV anime. The broadcast will begin on Dec. 20 at 1:53 a.m. on TV Tokyo.
Along with the announcement of the anime, information on the cast and staff were also revealed. Seiyū Shiho Sasaki has been chosen for the role of main character Wakaba Himeji. Himeji is a young girl who, due to her spiritual ability, attracts foul spirits and has to spend her days in solitude. The strange creature Pō-chan which cries out “Pupipō!” is being played by Chisato Mori. Reiko Azuma, a young transfer student who loves the occult, is being played by Mai Gotō. Additional cast include Kotomi Otsuka as Naoya Yūki, a boy with spiritual powers just like Himeji, Setsuo Itō as Ryōhei Ameyama, a classmate of Himeji’s, and Hanae Okubo as Miyori Sonoda.
Directing the anime is Kaoru Suzuki who worked as assistant director on Acchi Kocchi and Date A Live. Other staff include Motoshi Nakajō ( Maji de Otaku na English! Ribbon-chan: Eigo de Tatakau Mahou Shoujo ) as series composer and Takumi Yokota, animation director on Strike Witches: The Movie, as character designer. Also, another point to take note of is that seiyū Keiji Fujiwara is not only voicing Himeji’s dad, he is also the sound director. The anime is being produced by AIC Plus+. AIC, a subsidiary of Aplix Group along with G Mode, the company in charge of Comic Meteor, previously produced the anime adaptation of Tenshi no Drop. They are sure to cleverly depict the world of Pupipō! as well.
Because of her ability to see what others can’t, fifth grader Wakaba Himeji leads a life of solitude. One day, she meets a strange, soft, pink creature called Pō-chan and her life is greatly changed. The original work has already concluded with three volumes published.
