Maaya Sakamoto x The Band Apart - Unique Tag Team Creates New Original Anime OP

It has become known that seiyū and singer Maaya Sakamoto is in charge of the opening theme to the new anime Sekai Seifuku: Bōryaku no Zvezda that will begin broadcasting in January 2014. Creating the music is the four-person rock band The Band Apart. Sekai Seifuku: Bōryaku no Zvezda will be broadcast on MBS, Tokyo MX, and other networks.

This is the first time that Maaya Sakamoto has collaborated with The Band Apart. Because each of these artists has had a long career along with a huge fanbase, it will be interesting to see what kind of music comes out of this unique encounter. Furthermore, The Band Apart isn’t just supplying the music, they will also take part in the recording.

Sekai Seifuku: Bōryaku no Zvezda is an original TV animation being worked on by Tensai Okamura who directed the anime Blue Exorcist and co-directed the movie Memories along with Katsuhiro Otomo and Koji Morimoto. Kouhaku Kuroboshi who is known for illustrating the light novel Kino’s Journey is the character planner. This attention-worthy anime is being produced by A-1 Pictures.

Maaya Sakamoto

Maaya Sakamoto was active as a child actor in a theatrical troupe beginning at a young age. At the age of 15, she began her music career. In 1996, she made her CD debut with the opening theme to the TV anime The Vision of Escaflowne, “Yakusoku wa Iranai.” In 2011, her album You Can’t Catch Me topped the Oricon chart. This year, her newest album Singer Songwriter was released on which she created all the lyrics and compositions. She is also currently voicing the main character Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell: Arise.

The Band Apart

The Band Apart is a rock band that formed in 1998. They bring together excellent techniques and catchy melodies using a complicated fusion of many different styles of music including heavy metal, melocore, fusion, soul, jazz, and bossa nova. To date, they have released six full-length albums. They are a rare band that is valued both in Japan and abroad.
