Nintendo is Returning to its Roots?! Introducing “Pokémon Hanafuda”

It has been revealed that “Pokémon Hanafuda” cards will go on sale from Movic. At the same time this announcement was made, the official site of the product opened.

The official site shows a Hanafuda-like design of Pikachu and the phrase “Look forward to details on 10/18 (Fri)!”. Other than the site specifying that the cards will be available at Pokémon Centers and Animate, other details have not yet been announced.

The Pokémon series began with the big hits Red and Blue released in 1996 on Nintendo’s handheld game console Game Boy. Since then, every new game in the series has been released on one of Nintendo’s handheld game consoles and developed in collaboration with Nintendo. The series has become loved by a multitude of fans and is one of Japan’s representative game series.

Because Nintendo began in 1889 as a Hanafuda company, it can be said that “Pokémon Hanafuda” is Nintendo returning to its roots. Even today on Nintendo’s official site, there is a page that discusses Hanafuda in detail, including the game’s history and how to play it. For those who want the “Pokémon Hanafuda” cards but don’t know a thing about the game, this page will help you cover the basics and then some. Make sure to check it out.
