New Characters Revealed for Meganebu! Have an International Flair? Student Council Cast Announced

The original TV anime series Meganebu!, which is themed after boys who wear glasses, will finally begin broadcasting on Oct. 6 on Tokyo MX and other networks. On Sept. 28 at Odaiba Cinema Mediage, an advance screening event was held for the first episode, which was nothing short of a huge success. Within this swelling anticipation for the anime, new information has been consecutively released.

One piece of new information to take special note of is the cast of new characters. Among the eight new characters, five are on the student council. Even though the work is set in Japan, for some reason, the members of the student council are half British, German, Italian, and Brazilian, and thus have an abundant international flair. The only new character who is full-blooded Japanese is Tetsu Suzuki, played by Chihiro Suzuki.

Other cast members for these new characters include Noriaki Sugiyama as William Satō (British), Mitsuaki Madono as Lorenzo Watanabe (German), Daisuke Kishio as Maximillian Takahashi (Italian), and Mitsuo Iwata as Antonio Tanaka (Brazilian). Even regarding the other characters in the work, fans are looking forward to a stellar cast that includes Hiroki Yasumoto as Hotaka Shirogane, Hiroki Takahashi as Kyousuke Hariu, and Atsushi Kousaka as Hikaru Souma.

Tie-up campaigns and events related to the anime have already been held, and other projects will also continue from here on. The first of these is a novel adaptation that will go on sale from Frontier Works’ Filia Bunko this winter. Production on a spin-off manga has also been revealed. This spin-off, titled Meganebu! Seitokai Yori Ai o Komete, will begin on Oct. 25 in Fujimi Shobo’s digital manga magazine, Millefeui. Furthermore, in addition to the announcement of the student council members, one more spin-off manga was announced that will follow these characters.

On the collaboration side of things, a special attraction called “Meganebu! in Namja Town” will be open in the Ikebukuro theme park Namja Town from Nov. 16, 2013 to Jan. 5, 2014. A collaboration with the butler cafe Love-All will also be held until Oct. 7.

There will also be advance screenings of the first episode held in Fukui. The first ones will be held on Oct. 5 and 6 during the Fukui TV Festival. These will be held in the small hall on the fourth floor of the Fukui TV building and will feature a discussion with Kenji Akabane, voice of Akira Sōma. On Oct. 5, an event will also be held in the setting of the anime, Sabae. At this event will once again be Akabane along with the mayor of Sabae, Hyakuo Makino. All these events will be free to attend, but only 50 people who sign up will be chosen to attend the event in Sabae.

This anime may have a slightly strange premise, but due to many people’s love of megane (glasses), various collaborations and projects will continue. Likewise, the popularity of this work may widen even more as well.
