The long-awaited anime adaptation for Nobunagun, a manga currently serializing in the monthly publication Comic Earth Star with a favorable reputation, is finally underway! The show is set to air from January 2014. The “superhuman vs. monster” action manga created by Masato Hisa will unfold at full speed.
Hisa is known for his stylish drawings and unique world. Nobunagun is a “superhuman battle action” manga in which the protagonist, the high school student Ogura Shio, inherits the E-gene of Oda Nobunaga and battles monsters with a huge machine gun that is born from Nobunaga’s soul. The protagonists fight against the evolving monsters by transforming the souls of historical figures into weapons, for instance, Nobunaga is a gun, Gandhi is a barrier, and Newton is gravity manipulation. Seeing such content, people are eager to see how the anime adaptation will turn out.
Regarding the upcoming anime adaptation, Masato Hisa also made an official comment.
>An anime adaptation! I didn’t think it would come to this when I exposed my idea three years ago to the owner of a cafe in Yokohama Chinatown. Chewing sunflower seeds, I told him, “Nobunaga is a gun, so how about calling it Nobunagun?” The title is very important. When we have meetings with the anime staff, the world and the settings, which were limited when I was thinking about it alone, expanded in an instant. I can feel the whole thing coming to life, and I enjoy it very much. I want to see how Shio and the others move around freely after being released from the pages, and I would like everyone to see it as well. Although in this show, there are no tanuki, giants, swimming club members, or thirteen handsome brothers, there are monsters!
To commemorate the anime adaptation, the September issue of Comic Earth Star, released on August 12, features Nobunagun on the front and inside covers in color! It also introduces the newest information on the anime, so you might want to check it. Also, the third volume of the manga is scheduled to release on Sept. 12. It seems that the manga will also gain new momentum with this anime adaptation.
