The set of four boys can participate in a relay – the Iwatobi High Swim Club officially gets going?!
Nagisa and Makoto get together at Haruka’s house who has caught a cold. He hears from Nagisa that Rin has joined Samezuka Academy’s swimming club. Nagisa proposes that they enter the big swim meet, but as there are only three of them, they are unable to enter the relay.
On the train on the way to school, Nagisa ponders over getting members for the club. Then, he invites a classmate, Ryūgazaki Rei, again but he quickly and totally refuses. Also, Gō suggests they use the indoor pool at the sports club to practice while it’s cold out. However, Miss Amakata explains to them that if the club doesn’t make any achievements, it will be difficult to cover their expenses.
Nagisa runs into Rei again leaving school and is convinced it must be fate. The reason being simply that like Haruka, Makoto, and Nagisa, Rei also has a girly name! Rei goes to pole vaulting practice but is shocked to be told by his coach, “If you keep just thinking about it with your head, your record won’t grow.”
Gō gets a joint practice agreement from Samezuka Academy, but is given the condition that they must have four members.
The next day, Nagisa ambushes Rei before training and they go for a run together. Nagisa tells Rei that his own reason for inviting him was the beauty of his pole vaulting. Rei says he’ll come to the joint practice if he’s just a temporary member on the condition that he won’t be swimming by himself.
On the day of the joint practice with Samezuka Academy, it is decided in the end that Rei will swim but.....the truth is he really can't!
Haruka, obsessed with swimming “freely,” innocent Nagisa, theoretical Rei, and the organizer Makoto - each individually coming together in the Iwatobi High Swim Club. The friends assemble and the burgeoning story naturally flows easily. We’re eager to see how they come together as a team.
