NTT Docomo, a mobile phone operator, will sell the “Xperia feat. Hatsune Miku” smartphone, which is limited to 39,000, in the latter end of this September in Japan. On July 4, the special site for the smartphone opened and the fan participation project “Find Your Miku Project” also began.
The “Xperia feat. Hatsune Miku” smartphone model will be the NTT Docomo’s Xperia A SO-O4E. Visit TOM’s previous article on this smartphone for details on its specs. Illustrated by iXima and designed by Tohru Mitsuhashi, the smartphone will be available in Miku’s signature teal color, as well as include Hatsune Miku wallpaper and feature a graphic on the back surface of Hatsune Miku’s classic twin tails.
“Find Your Miku Project” is being hosted by the consumer-generated medial special site Piapro. As part of the project, Submissions will be accepted for two contests until July 31 at 5 p.m. (JST): one that challenges users to make a sound clip that represents the world of Hatsune Miku and Xperia, and another that challenges users to make a Hatsune Miku portrait that can used as a wallpaper. Creations collected as part of this project will be included in the smartphone. The goal of this project is for users to easily discover creators and works of interest to them while enjoying the device.
From the latter end of August until early September, a lottery for a portion of the units will take place online. Thereafter, pre-orders will begin being accepted on the Docomo Shop. Last year, the Hatsune Miku and Sony collaborative walkman sold out immediately once pre-orders began. Thus, fans are wondering what struggle many ensue for obtaining just one “Xperia Feat. Hatsune Miku” smartphone.
